WEEKLY UPDATE
Week #8 started off with a beautiful morning looking forward to another week to see the kids have fun and get better. When we walked into the school, we realized they did not leave the hockey nets out for us which put us in a panic. We were determined not to let the kids down and went to the Hintonburg Community Centre which we have a long standing relationship with. Even though they said no, we were not taking that for an answer and basically begged until they allowed us to borrow them. We are in touch with the school board to ensure this does not happen again going forward. Once that problem was solved it was all about the kids and we had many new faces out especially in the 1pm game which saw the most competitive game of the season.
Reminder that NO OUTSIDE FOOTWEAR is to be worn in the gym by kids or parents so please bring a change of shoes. The kids must always have both a BLACK and a WHITE shirt (no grey) in their bags. All sticks blades except for goalies must be fully taped with white hockey tape to protect the floors. Also, it is very helpful if parents can put a strip of white tape on the front of your child’s helmet with their name in black marker. Thanks to the parents that volunteer on the benches each week!
RECAPS
Black (D) vs White (D)
Our first game saw a good turnout with only a few kids missing. White would take the early lead going up 2-0 as they received goals from Noah Gerofsky (2G) and Jack Makischuk (1G/1A) who had an outstanding game. This woke up Black and they would score 3 in a row before half to take the 3-2 lead. In the second half it was more of the same, with White scoring first before Black would tally 4 in a row. Leading the way was none other than Isaac Oliver (2G), Mateo Aprile (2G/1A) and Gianluca Giannetti (1G/1A) with Abby Lawlor and Francesco Cammara scoring singles. In the end, Black took this game 7-3. Ben Lawlor – 4G/24SH / Jackson Shepheard – 6G/21SH
Black (C) vs White (C)
Next up we had a low scoring affair as our 11AM goalies have really stepped up their games as of late. There were only 2 goals in the first half with both coming from Black as Jibrael Wasty, Cam Williams and Ethan Chrismas tallied with Ethan going top shelf on the run. William Arsenault would not allow one goal in the first half on 17 shots. In the second half, Black would score one more with this time Zach Surette stonewalling the opposition as this game finished 3-0 in favour of Black with both goalies receiving stars. The only assist of the game came from Xander Legari. William Arsenault 1G/31SH / Zach Surette 2G/32SH
Black (B) vs White (B)
In our 12PM game we welcomed some new faces as Christopher Bedard and goalie Daniel Mazzarello made their HTBHL debut while Cadence Nowaczek played her second game in the B while Cecil Williams played his first. A few more goals in this one for sure! Only 3 goals were scored in the first half, all by White as Mazzarello made quite the early impression not allowing a goal in the first half. Another newcomer popped as Bedard was the first star with 2 goals and 1 assist. Other players from White to snipe were Julien Olivier (2G/1A) and Mehdi El Kebir (2G). Second star Owen Amoli had a breakout game with 1 goal and 3 helpers. Although Black scored 2 in the 2nd half White doubled that goal output with 4. Manuel Larente had 2 goals for Black while getting assists were Mederic Larente and Theodore Arsenault as White took this game 7-2. Daniel Mazzarello 4G/22SH / Cormac Simmons 5G/33SH
Black (A) vs White (A)
Last but not least, the big boys came to play as we had many new faces in the lineup. Making their HTBHL debut were Harjot Vaid and Miguel Neuman while Nathan Sirois and Jared Madden made their season debut. Christopher Bedard also stayed to play and showed he belonged in the top game. The first half was tight as there were only 2 goals scored, one from each side as both Liam Nunn and Reece Barkhouse shut the door. In the second half, play opened up and we saw goals, goals and more goals. Black scored 8 in the second half while White tallied 5 times as the scorekeeper was busy! First start Harjot Vaid was dominant using his size and reach putting up 3 points (1G/2A) and being a menace to the D all game. Mederic Larente also had a strong game on D with 1G and 2A. The only hat trick came from Tristran von Teichman although he did take 3 penalties…Cole Fortin, Miguel Neuman and Christopher Bedard scored deuces. Other contributors were Nathan Sirois (1G), Mason Frewen (1G), Kieran Lawlor (1G) and Jared Madden (1G) who had a nice deke on a penalty shot. In the end, Black took this one 9-6 in definitely the most competitive A game of the season. Reece Barkhouse 6G/48SH / Liam Nunn 9G/51SH
Although it is not all about stats, we want to introduce the kids to HTBHL so we are providing them with some of the same benefits the adult leagues enjoy. For the 3 stars in the schedule portion of the website we will go mainly by points and numbers as we do in our adult leagues. We will also highlight below players in each game that maybe didn't get a star but are good teammates, show good sportsmanship and work hard to improve and had a good week on the floor.
A – Christopher Bedard
B – Manuel Larente
C – Rodrigo Portillo
D – Jack Makischuk
GOALIE: Cormac Simmons
