Out of the 3 games played on championship Sunday we had the semifinals as well as final.  Out of those matchups, both semifinal games saw the lower seed prevail.  All the games were competitive with all 3 being decided by 3 goals or less including the championship game going all the way to a 3 player overtime shootout to decide the winner.  There were 2 hat tricks recorded with Goblins topping the scoreboard with 7 goals in their semifinal.  Thank you to everyone that helped make this season possible.  We hope you enjoyed the league and see you back on the floor this summer.  Take care everyone.

TOP PERFORMERS

Leading the way on the scoresheet were a trio of players in GOB Tyler Grandy, PP Nolan Marshall and GOB Oskar Kostrzewa who all put up FOUR points apiece to lead all players in scoring.  The top snipers were the aforementioned GOB Grandy and PP Marshall as they were the only players to snipe HAT TRICK’s.  TWO assists was tops with four players dishing including GOB Bernard Murdock, GOB Dan MacPhail, GOB Kostrzewa and PP Dave McCloskey.  Between the pipes, both GOB Jeff Moreau (5G/37SH) and PP Cory Bissonnette (5G/30SH) played unreal in giving their teams a chance to win.  The only players to score in the overtime shootout were PP teammates Jon Code and Nolan Marshall to deliver the championship victory.

RECAPS

Goblins (5) vs Les Gars (1)

In the first semi-final, GOB took on LG. In the regular season these teams played each other twice with LG coming out on top both times with a combined total of 14 goals for and 8 goals against. A hooking call gave LG a power play chance a few moments into the game. Roch Decoeur fired a shot blocker side for the goal and the 1-0 LG lead. Yanick Lalonde (1G/1A) buried his shot a few moments later for the 2-0 lead. With under 6 minutes to go, a sweet connection from the point to the backdoor where Jacob Lefebvre arrived at the perfect time for the easy touch in for the 3-goal lead. A pass ahead to the half for Tyler Grandy (3G/1A) who wired a shot past the glove to put GOB on the board. Another penalty call against GOB before the break but it was GOB who jumped out on the attack as David Bottos buried the shot from the middle of the zone for the shorty. Heading into the break, LG was ahead 3-2. While shots were 19-14 also for LG. Still on the power play to start the period, LG didn’t need too long as Cameron Kennedy (1G/1A) would snipe the top corner for the goal to restore a 2-goal lead. Midway through the period, GOB was starting to really click with some good chances. Bottos would record his 2nd goal of the game followed by Grandy to knot the game up at 4. With under 4 to go, Grandy picked up the hat-trick goal with a shot from the side of the slot for the 5-4 GOB lead. LG had a good chance in the final 1:40 of the game as GOB ended up in the sinbin again. Seconds into the power play Oskar Kostrzewa was quick on the ball, carried down the wing and with a well-placed shot, scored the short-handed goal for the 2-goal lead. LG pulled the goalie for the extra attacker, however,  GOB replied quick burrying the empty netter and securing the win, 7-4 to advance to the finals.
GOB – Jeff Moreau – 32 shots
LG – Guillaume Auger – 33 shots

Pauly’s Pants (3) vs Morning Sherwood (2)

In semi-final number 2, PP took to the floor with MSW. The season series was a short one as MSW won the only matchup by a score of 9-6.  Four minutes into the game, a shot on net was stopped but Eric de Repetigny batted the ball into the net, keeping his stick just under his shoulders for the 1-0 MSW lead. Nolan Marshall (3G/1A) weaved his way through the front from one side of the net to the other getting the goalie down and guiding the ball in, 1-1.  With 2 minutes left in the period, a pass ahead to Jon Code with time in the slot, sniped the top corner for the PP lead. The lead would hold going into the break, 2-1 PP. Shots were tied at 16 apiece. Both sides were working hard in the first 10 minutes but nothing much to show for it as MSW Justin Leclerc and PP Cory Bissonnette held the teams off the scoreboard. In the final 10 minutes it was a go, MSW had the offensive draw. MSW won it to Eric Seguin (2G) and he snapped it under the glove. PP answered within a minute, Marshall buried his own rebound. 4-2 PP. MSW came right back, Eric Caron was in the high slot and riffled it home. 4-3. Under five minutes to go, MSW were on the power play. Seguin was on the point when he slapped in the low shot. Game tied at 4. PP were still on the penalty kill, Marshall was in the mid slot with some room and scored the shorty down low. That would be the winner and PP took the game 5-4 and advance to the finals against GOB.
PP – Cory Bissonnette – 28 shots
MSW – Justin Leclerc – 31 shots

FINAL – Goblins (5) vs Pauly’s Pants (3)

GOB vs PP for all the marbles in the title matchup. These teams played one game against each other this season with the score being 10-5 for PP. A quick pass ahead to Bernard Murdock (2G) who turned and fired the ball past everyone gave GOB the opening goal of the game. Midway through the period, a long hard shot on net by Oskar Kostrzewa (2G/2A) looked to be deflected off the defence and past the goalie for the 2-0 lead. Off the following faceoff, Nolan Marshall (2G) would snipe a shot from the wing over the glove shoulder to put PP on the board. A long shot by Murdock wasn’t controlled and just popped off the goalie’s glove and into the net to restore the GOB 2-goal lead. GOB went on the power play but PP would benefit from a quick transition 2 on 1 with Jon Code (1G/1A) burying the shot. However, the power play wouldn’t be a total waste as Kostrzewa was able to bury his 2nd of the game. A late point shot by Clark McGillis (2G) would find the top corner and bring PP within a goal. GOB was ahead 4-3 at the break with shots 12-10 for PP. Minutes into the second, PP was busy in front of the net but GOB goalie Jeff Moreau held his ground and with a little help from the defence, kept the ball out of the net. With just twelve minutes to go, David Bottos was in the mid-slot and fired it low, GOB up two, 5-3. Two minutes later, McGilis was in front of the net and cut the lead down to one. GOB came down the floor and riffled it only to have Moreau come up with the big glove save, then quickly closed the five-hole. With under five minutes to go, Marshall was on the side of the net, the slap pass came from the point, as he tapped it in. PP almost took the lead but hit the post. Game tied and going to OT. In the second OT, Bissonnette kept the game tied with a huge diving save. OT solved nothing as neither team really gained any traction, off to the shootout! PP Code and Marshall found the back of the net while Bissonnette shut the door and kept the ball out. PP won the shootout and the game 6-5. Congrats to the Champs PP!
PP – Cory Bissonnette – 30 shots
