WEEKLY UPDATE

WOW!!! Definitely a first…I thought we were going to all have to camp out at McNabb to wait out that shootout! Congratulations goes to Twice As Nice as our 2024 Summer Coed Arena winners. I’m sure it will be a final you will all remember. We hope to see you all in the fall!

RECAP

Sneaky Good vs. Twice as Nice

Welcome to the finals… SG had to kill off a penalty to start the game and they only allowed two chances on net. We were still waiting on the first goal of the game when SG’s Jeff Squires made a big save with four minutes left in the first. TAN kept that pressure and Alex BC sniped one top cheese from the slot to give his team the 1-0 lead. Shots at half were 6-3 against SG. Antoine BC decided he wanted in on the scoring like his brother, so he went for a run and deked the goalie on his backhand to put the score at 2-0 for TAN. With 6:49 on the clock, SG’s Bryan Needham got them on the board with a high shot by the side of the net and cut TAN’s lead in half. They never gave up and battled back to tie the game with Trent Leddy’s one timer from the slot. Regulation time ran out and we headed into overtime. It looked like it could be over with a breakaway chance for TAN, but once again Squires came in clutch and made the save. SG had a good scoring chance in the three-on-threeOT, but Jacob Schryburt was also making big saves on the other end. Going into the shootout we didn’t think we would go 14 rounds for a winner. Both teams were getting tired of it so there was a debate on how to finish the game. We went back to the regular season SO rule where 2 players shoot and third round the team decides whether to shoot or defend. TAN won the toss, so they chose to defend, and it was the right call as the shot went off the post and TAN pulled out the 3-2 SO championship victory.

SG- Jeff Squires- 15 shots

TAN- Jacob Schryburt- 20 shots
