GAME RECAPS

Just Cruisin’… As the season was ending, we had Doom Crew and No Name fighting for a spot in the finals. The intensity was high as both teams wanted this victory. It would take a while for the first goal as it took 11 minutes to see one, in Christian Vandersterre (2G) with a short side sniper. A couple of minutes later, Jon Levy would send in a shot from behind his own net that would catch the goalie sleeping. Dylan Cundell (2G/1A) would follow suit moments later with a wrap around, giving DC a 3-goal lead. Before the end of the night, Markus Pugi (1G/1A) would put NN on the board with a backhand shot in close. After 20, it was 3-1 for DC, shots 25-12 in their favour. A few minutes into the 2nd period would make it 3-2 as Dan Ballem would spin and shoot it from half. Kristi Randhawa would tie this game up with a little over 6 minutes left to play as she picked a corner going far side. Cundell would make it 4-3 with an inside post shot and about a minute later, Bryan Needham would find the back of the net from the top of the slot, making it 5-3. NN would pull their goalie with a couple of minutes left on the board, but that would backfire as Vandersterre would find the back of the empty net.  DC wins 6-3 and heads to the finals.

DC – Simon Laughlin – 38 shots

NN – Eric Williams – 31 shots

Sealed with a Kiss… Next up, in tonight’s 2nd semis game, we had Kiss from a Larose taking on War Makers. This one was also an intense matchup but KFL would find the back of the net first in Amanda Stephens as the ball bounced up and went in. Bradley McCarter (1G/1A) was the one to put WM on the scoreboard with a far side chip in. Jason Francis (2G) would follow suit as he went backhand to forehand in tight. Less than a minute later, Yann Koci would add one to WM’s tally, as they were up 3-1. Francis would add another, this time shooting from the point as WM was heading into the 2nd period with a 4-1 lead, shots 15-11 for KFL. Early in the 2nd half, Jeff Murphy (2G/2A) would bang in a rebound for KFL. Justin Larose (2G/2A) would then snipe one in short side to make it 4-3. Soon after, Eric Brideau would tap in the ball at the goalie’s feet, as we were all tied up at 4 apiece. KFL would keep things tight in the 2nd period, as the goalie was stopping everything. Larose would add another for his team, this time picking his corner with a hard shot, giving his team a 1-goal lead. Murphy would make it a 2-goal lead shortly after, as he found the back of the empty net. With seconds left on the board, Jocelyn Mitchell would make it a 1-goal game as she found mesh through a scramble in front. KFL would hold them off for the remaining few seconds as they move on to the finals with a score of 6-5.

KFL – Dylan Cundell – 26 shots

WM – Dan Ballem – 29 shots

For All the Marbles… The final showcase of the season saw Kiss from a Larose and Doom Crew battling for all the bragging rights. DC would start off quickly as Dylan Cundell (5G/2A) would send one five hole in close. The next goal would come 4 minutes later, as Cundell picks the ball off the goalie’s feet. Halfway through the period, Christian Vandersterre (4G/2A) would score as he rushed in. Cundell would then get his hattrick with a spin and shoot from half. A minute later, Jeff Murphy (2G) would find the back of the net for KFL as he banged in a rebound on his 2nd or 3rd try. With about 3 minutes left in the period, Justin Larose would blast one in from half. At the end of the period, DC was up 4-2, but shots were 18-9 for KFL. The 2nd period was a little slower to start as the first goal came after 5 minutes in Vandersterre with a short side shot. A minute or so later, Murphy would one-time a pass coming from behind the net, putting KFL within 2 once again. Eric Brideau (2G/1A) would follow suit with a hard shot from half. A minute late, Vandersterre would get his 3rd of the game, going top corner. KFL would then take advantage of a power play as Brock Murray (1G/2A) would tap in a cross-crease pass and, less than 40 seconds later, Brideau would score again, this time from the top of the slot, as the game was tied. At the 5-minute mark, Vandersterre would rip one in from his own end. Soon after, Cundell would find the five hole. He would add another for good measure as DC wins the season with a final score of 9-6.
