Hat Trick Ball Hockey

Here we are in the final week of it all, where two teams will go home with the hardware and 6 teams will just go home. Well with that being said we had a great season, albeit seemed really long with all the breaks, thanks for everyone for showing up week after week and everyone’s a winner in my eyes…

Well let’s get on to the action…

Defensive Battle… Our first Semi-Final of the B pool we had Energy Line(EL) trying to finally beat the Goonies(Goo) in what was a very defensive battle. The first half had lots of one thing, and one thing only… SHOTS!!! The score was 0-0 heading into the break with El having the edge in shots 19-10. About 3min into the second EL would solve the goalie as Chris Taylor would wrist a beauty top shelf putting them up 1-0 and then Nicky Welsh would finish a one-timer past the keeper to give EL the 2-0 lead. Taylor would add another one and make it 3-0 with about 13min to go. Yoan Poirier would break the shutout bid as he would beat Jason St-Cyr on the PP making it 3-1 but that’s all she wrote as St-Cyr would shut the door and give EL a birth in the B finals.

Second Half Comeback… Our second B Semi-Finals had the Door Matt’s(DM) trying to get a date with Energy Line as they took on Baby Got Backes(BGB) in what would be an entertaining affair. DM started out strong as Matt Rodrigues would score the first of three quick goals. Grace Melano would bury a rebound off the post to end the run and make it 3-1. DM would get two more goals, including a goal from captain Mat Crain with about 30sec left in the half. With the score 5-1 BGB would need to get it started to make a game out of this one. DM would get another quick goal in the second as Michel Carisse would bury a rebound off the wall, giving DM a commanding 6-1 lead. BGB would start to surge as Robin Kerr would bury back-to-back goals cutting the lead to 6-3. DM would get the next one as Captain Crain would wrist one low glove, which was an important goal. BGB would get two quick goals just 50sec apart making it 7-5. BGB was putting on the pressure when Connor O`Meara would take an untimely penalty. Captain Brock Murray would bury one SH with 20sec left. DM would hold on and take this one 7-6. DM moves on to the finals.

Tight D and Good G`s… In our first A Semi-Final we had Scoregasms(SGM) battling it out with Freebooters(FB) for a chance to play in the big dance. The game was fairly even and had some good goaltending. The first goal came 16 minutes in on the PP as Nick Tessier would bury a cross crease pass. Mike Button would score the next 2 goals and would make it 3-0. Captain Anthony Romanelli would bat a rebound out of mid-air with just moments left in the half to cut the lead to 3-1. The second featured some beauty goaltending as many chances were had and only one goal was scored. That goal was from Jake Legault as he would bury a second chance in front making it 4-1. SGM earns a spot in the A Finals and no wait and see who the opponent will be.

No Surprises Here… The other A Semi-Final had the Premature Shooters(PS) trying to eliminate Stick in a Box(SiaB). PS would score first and score often as Luc Facette would score his first of two on a slapper from the point. PS would get 6 in the first half making it 6-0 at the break and threaten the mercy. Jody Kingsbury would get one with a nice deke in front and followed up with a nice backhand finish. Not much action for the rest of the half but PS would finish it off with just over 20sec left to make it 8-1 and earn a spot in the A Finals.

B Finals… Door Matt`s(DM) took on a momentum filled Energy Line(EL) team for the B Finals in what considered a bit of a mismatch. The game would start off very even as the first goal came with just 5:00 to go on the first as Michel Carisse would grab his own rebound in the crease and bang it home. DM would bury 2 more late to take a commanding 3-0 into the recess. DM would keep rolling as they would score 3 more to go up 6-0 and pretty much suck the life out of EL. EL would get one as Chris Taylor would put a low roller under the keeper that that’s as close as they would come. The teams would exchange some goals but DM would end this one with 90sec left by a 9-2 mercy. Congrats to the Door Matt’s on being crowned B champions.

A Finals… Our very last game in this inaugural season had the Premature Shooters(PS) battling it out against Scoregasms(SGM) in this very good hockey game. The teams were so evenly matched that no one scored a goal in the first 20 minutes of play and remain scoreless going into the second half with PS having the edge in shots 23-13. In the second, we finally got a goal. PS would grab the first goal as Mireille Belcourt batted in a rebound to put them up 1-0 and soon after PS would get another to go up 2-0. Dan Prieur would wrist one in and cut the lead to 2-1, but PS would strike twice more to go up 4-1. Captain Prieur would bury another to give his team a shot, but it was a little too late as PS take the championship 4-2. Honourable mention goes out to Cory Chipman as he faced 51 shots and only let in 4. Great game guys!
